The Tennessee District is Prioritizing High-Quality Curriculum and Flexibility of Instruction in Midst of Unexpected Future
MENLO PARK, CA (June 10, 2020) – Open Up Resources (Open Up), a nonprofit whose mission is to increase equity in education, and Kiddom, whose platform helps educators bring open curriculum to life by connecting curriculum to instruction and assessment, are partnering to bring top-rated EL Education K-5 English Language Arts (ELA) curriculum within Kiddom’s digital education platform to Hamilton County Schools (TN) in support of the district’s blended learning initiatives.
The partnership will provide teachers the ability to utilize EL Education K-5 ELA curriculum on Kiddom’s platform to share assignments digitally, communicate with students, and deliver personalized feedback on submissions while prioritizing student reading proficiency and content knowledge of science and social studies.
Additionally, the partnership will equip Hamilton County Schools with a full-service, multi-year professional learning plan from EL Education to support teachers, plus access to peer-to-peer communications within Open Up’s K-5 EL Education digital community.
“Hamilton County Schools has chosen research-backed ELA curriculum that can flex to the needs of today’s classroom and world. It’s reassuring to see that this Tennessee district, serving 44,000 children, is prioritizing innovative teaching and learning in this unprecedented time. Pairing Open Up’s high-quality curriculum with Kiddom’s intuitive digital platform will give teachers and students across 41 Hamilton County Schools the tools they need to successfully increase reading proficiency and ensure continuity of engaging instruction during these uncertain times,” said Jessica Reid Sliwerski, CEO of Open Up Resources.
“In education, curriculum reigns supreme because it defines what and how young people should learn; it directly affects student outcomes,” said Ahsan Rizvi, CEO of Kiddom. “Which is why we are laser-focused on building technology that enables teachers to bring high-quality curriculum to life. Hamilton County Schools is leading the way in innovative teaching and learning, preparing their students and educators for the future of schooling."
“Hamilton County Schools is committed to accelerating the achievement of our students,” said Dr. Bryan Johnson, superintendent of Hamilton County Schools. “We believe aligning our resources and investing in a robust curriculum like EL/Open Up’s K-5 ELA curriculum will help us accomplish that goal. Our district is looking forward to this partnership and implementing the new curriculum during the 2020-2021 school year.”
