Open Up Resources and Illustrative Mathematics Share a Common Vision for an Open Ecosystem for K–12 Education

MENLO PARK, CALIF. [June 14, 2019] — Open Up Resources and Illustrative Mathematics, two independent non-profit organizations, worked together to catalyze the K–12 curriculum market and OER ecosystem to ensure all schools maintain free access to the top-rated Open Up Resources 6–8 Math curriculum and set a new bar for high quality, open, full-course curriculum.

Open Up Resources 6–8 Math 2.0 was authored by Illustrative Mathematics. Illustrative Mathematics authored, reviewed, and approved all of the content contained in Open Up Resources 6-8 Math 2.0,” said Bill McCallum from Illustrative Mathematics. “Open Up Resources 6–8 Math 2.0 is a high-quality curriculum, and Illustrative Mathematics is proud of its collaboration with Open Up Resources, which brought one of the first full-course OER middle school math curriculum to students and teachers across the country.”

Version 2.0 of Open Up Resources 6–8 Math curriculum is the result of the collaboration between Illustrative Mathematics and Open Up Resources, who worked together to provide a new, updated version of the Open Up Resources 6–8 Math curriculum.

“We wanted to improve the quality of curriculum and push other providers to step up their work so that all kids receive a quality education. The first version of Open Up Resources 6–8 Math has both helped thousands of students and pushed other providers to release high-quality curriculum of their own,” said Jessica Reid Sliwerski, CEO of Open Up Resources. “It’s been a huge success on both fronts, and we’re excited to have worked with Illustrative Mathematics to provide the updated second edition of the curriculum. We’re honored to know that we’ve positively impacted the market, and that big publishers will be distributing these materials to get them in the hands of as many students as possible.”
